Nagoya Travel Jan 2019- Day 4 & 5: The ONE Hida beef bun you MUST TRY & the ONE Hida beef miso you MUST EAT! + Coin laundromat at Takayama

The streets were quiet and peaceful and there’s still a handful of shops opened. We dropped into one of them selling hida beef buns and bought two as breakfast for the next morning.

There’s actually many shops selling hida beef buns in Takayama and we tried two of these stores. This one wins HANDS DOWN. Mind you, this was after the bun’s skin condensed due to the steam and reheating in the microwave the next day, but it was OH SO DELICIOUS!

The Kihachiro beef bun sells at ¥500 and the Matcha at only ¥350. The meat filling was very savoury and the bun outrageously soft. Highly recommended!

We had another amazing dining experience at Tenaga Ashinaga. We didn’t have any expectations cos we just happened to come across the shop and thought the menu looks alright.

The shop is relatively small and by the time we arrived, it’s already filled up so we had to wait around 15-20 mins before getting a seat.

We ordered the Hida Beef Miso (¥1680) and Beef Hayashi (¥1380).

This. This right here, is divine.

Though expensive, it’s really worth it cos my hubs said the beef hayashi was the best he’s tasted and I JUST NEED TO GUSH ABOUT THE HIDA BEEF MISO.

It’s SO TENDER it’s like you’re biting into butter, I kid you not. I was absolutely mindblown cos the texture was something I’ve never ever tasted before and I kept wondering, is this really beef?

Up til today, this is the ONE meal I really miss from Takayama and I highly encourage you to try it for yourself.

The next morning, we asked the counter for detailed directions to the coin laundromat cos we knew from google map there’s one nearby.

It’s only less than 5 mins walk away from our hotel, Spa Alpina.

There’s no English instructions but with some common sense, we figured out how to do it.

Then an exhilarating thing happened!

It started snowing!

Pardon our suaku asses but it’s the first time we’re seeing snow so we got very ecstatic, hahaha~

After the excitement, we visited the Jinya Mae morning market.

This is one of the iconic landmarks of Takayama- the Nakabashi red bridge, just 10 mins or so walk from our hotel.

Fortunately, I didn’t add Kanazawa region to the itinerary cos I had wanted to see these Yukitsuri trees (a technique employed to protect trees from heavy snow by adding bamboo poles), turned out I could see them at Takayama anyway! Heehee~

We didn’t enter the Takayama Jinma cos you’ll have to pay~ Ha~

The kitten figurines are so cute! It’s a pity not all the shops were opened. I’m not sure whether it’s cos of the weather or they were already closed down.
