Nagoya Travel Jan 2019- Day 4: Hida Folk Village, Harada Sake Brewery

We passed by this restaurant as we were heading to our lunch destination and decided to make it our dinner place for the night.

This was the ramen place we noticed when we were going to the morning market, all impromptu decisions really. We just decided to eat at where it fancied us, lol~

This was the interior.

The menu~

We ordered the Hida beef bowl (¥650) and Takayama noodles (¥690). It was about a 15 mins wait.

The beef bowl tasted alright, quite expensive considering the size. But then again, everything is expensive to us here, lol~ The noodles’ broth was kinda bland, imho.

After lunch we strolled along the streets to our next destination~ Here’s a handmade craft shop!

I bought the wooden vase (¥1200) home as it’s soooo pretty~

We bought the Hida folk village bus ticket at the Takayama bus station which includes the entrance fee at ¥930 per pax.

It’s a mere 10 mins ride to the village~

Here’s where we alighted!

The bus stop directly faces the Hida Folk village~

Showing our tickets~

And in we go!

Hida Folk Village is an open-air museum with 30 over traditional houses from the Hida region~

As it’s really slippery with the snow, and I’m not sure whether my boots have enough friction, we changed into the snow boots provided~ It’s free!

I was joking to K about how we could have saved ourselves the money to Shirakawago cos this place looks almost the same~ The lake was frozen! Look at the white ducks frolicking in it~

Walking around carefully~

There’s the history of the place provided, really helpful!

It’d started raining a bit~

Posing with the frozen lake~

The place is so serene cos there’s hardly anyone around~

It’s quite a challenge to take all these pics in the cold cos the glove that we bought that’s supposedly suitable for touch screen, DOESN’T WORK. Like, for real, save yourself that money and get a normal winter glove. It took us forever to properly navigate the screen so K basically didn’t care and just took off one glove. I’m not that suicidal so I activated my Photo mode by talking to Siri. It’s super troublesome but it’s not like we could do anything about it, lol~

Can you imagine how people used to live here?

I love this round rice field~

This will probably look amazing during summer~

Exiting the place, we went into the souvenir shop while waiting for the bus back to the station.

“Your Name” is apparently very popular~

Back at the bus station, we checked out the route back to Nagoya~

Inside one of the souvenir shops at Takayama~

Back at Takayama, K wanted to visit the sake breweries~

With the coupon provided in the pamphlet (which we got at the tourist information centre), there’s free sake tasting at the Harada Sake Brewery.

While K busied himself with the alcohol at the counter, I walked around cos I don’t really fancy sake~

Sake nestling in a tiny well~

This is an actual fireplace, how cool is that!

They also sell snacks and condiments~

We didn’t buy any sake in the end, but it’s a nice experience anyway!

On the way back to our hotel, it’s like a trip down the Edo period. Absolutely breathtaking.

Next post, I’ll be sharing the ONE hida beef bun you ABSOLUTELY HAVE TO TRY and the ONE hida beef miso YOU MUST EAT at Takayama!
